Literature Text

Now summer's song has come and gone;
autumn's chill is hasting.
At winter's door we hunger for
something everlasting.

Oh, do not sing of fleeting things
like flowers, stars or love
that cause the heart and mind's depart
from prudency thereof.

Blooms exquisite and delicate
as maidens' youth will show
their spiteful ruse when their bright hues
shall wither with the snow.

Deceptive light of stars--so bright!--
that glitter in the sky;
on Earth we yearn for that which burns,
yet in their burning, die.

And love bears strife all throughout life
and ailments of the breath.
Yet should it live, all that it gives
shall surely cease with death.

Then what fiction in its diction
enduringly explores?
Is there a tale that will prevail
to tell of evermore?

Perhaps my song is sorely wrong
and we are meant to see
ordained duty of brief beauty
and there, eternity.

Then all hours I'll chance flowers,
conceding stars to move
my simple soul to be so bold
to wager upon love.
EDIT: Had to change out the first "beauty" in the second to last stanza for "duty", as it was meant to be. Bah. :grump:

Commission for *wist-aria; a love song from her character Chris to his sweetheart, Jaylen, without letting her know it's about her.

Ballad form.

When *wist-aria told me Chris and Jaylen live in a post-apocalyptic world, it occurred to me that any survivors of such a thing might harbor a sense of desiring something that lasts forever, and be jaded that no such thing truly exists. Though I don't know much about Chris and Jaylen (yet), I imagined him coming to the conclusion that perhaps, it is in ephemeral things that we realize that no thing lasts forever--but it can endure by adopting a new incarnation.

Flowers die, but come back every season. Stars explode to give birth to new galaxies. And if death takes a loved one, that doesn't mean our love ceases.

Thank you, *wist-aria for being awesome and commissioning me!

Very very deep! Your point is well taken, especially if souls live on after death, which is what I like to believe. Such lovely imagery yet again. As soon as I started reading this, I thought of a song by a band called Serenity that I listen to a lot.

The lyrics are here:

They definitely don't put it as eloquently as you do and they don't bring the point of love up, but I see similarities between the two. The band is really good, I think you'd like them. They're friends with Kamelot.
